Three days – 21 -23 June 2024 From the recognition of unconformities at Siccar point in the 16th Century to recent discovery of the first dominantly terrestrial vertebrates; the Upper Devonian and Mississippian (Lower Carboniferous) strata of the Midland Valley of Scotland have had a pivotal impact our understanding of geology. This field trip will take give the opportunity to go to some of these iconic locations and investigate the sedimentology. £600.00 per person Led by Tim Kearsey – BGS

This trip will depart from Aberdeen bright and early on the 21st June and return to Aberdeen on the 23rd June. Taking several people carriers, you will stay the first night at either the Wheatsheaf Hotel or the Mason Arms in Single Ensuite Rooms, with Breakfast provided on the 22nd. The night of the 22nd you will stay at the David Russell Apartments, St Andrew’s University Student Accommodation, in Single Ensuite rooms, within 5 bed room single sex apartments, with Breakfast provided.
All other meals will need to be sourced by yourself. The Drivers will arrange for stops en-route to facilitate this. Due to the remote-ness of the locations, it is to be expected that choices may be limited. Please note both the Wheatsheaf and the Mason Arms offer some catering facilities on certain days but nothing has been arranged for this.
The hotel accommodation is in single ensuite rooms. The David Russell Apartments are in single ensuite rooms in shared flats. The shared flats will be allocated into single sex flats, according to the sex listed on your passport.
